One World Fundraising Club

In the beginning of my sophmore year (September 2023), I founded the One World Fundraising Club with the hopes of raising money and collecting donations for One World Surgery and Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos, the two organizations I work with in Honduras.

The One World Club partners with One World Surgery, a nonprofit that delivers surgical services to underserved Latin American patients, and Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos, an organization that helps orphaned Honduran children become intelligent, independent, people. To further the impact of these nonprofits, the One World Club seeks to raise awareness in the Los Angeles community for donations. Marlborough students will participate in bake sales, clothing and toy drives, and an end-of-year fundraiser throughout the year, with all collections being sent to OWS and NPH. All it starts with is a small commitment to occasional meetings and the heart to impact underprivileged kids around the world.

As of December 2023, we have raised $400 from bake sales and are excited to continue progressing as a club!

SleepFill - Project Invent Innovation

I enrolled in Project Invent for the 2022-2023 school year. I got placed in a group with classmates, and we met our community partner, Sonia. Sonia had trouble falling asleep and maintaining deep sleep, and this is the problem we tackled throughout the year. Following an iterative development process, we went through all steps and had many milestones on the way. Some highlights from the year include narrowing our idea into a singular product, a strap that hugs your pillow, facilitating user testing and getting feedback, seeing the idea we had in our minds come alive, and getting to pitch our product at Demo Day.

Because the Project Invent rules require that all products must have a technological component featuring an Arduino, a key component of this program is the intersection between product design and robotics. We learned how to code Arduinos during this course to allow our SleepStrap to be Bluetooth compatible, have an alarm buzzer for deep sleepers, and a vibration motor for light sleepers. These features all helped Sonia because they reduced the need for a phone near her bed, one of her constant distractions.

Below are photos from our pitching slideshow and product iterations.

RIACT Goalkeeping Clothing Line

In the summer of 2022, I took a Product & Toy Design course through the OTIS college of art for college credit. In this month-long class, we explored our design interests, researched current products in a variety of markets, developed novel products, and pitched our work at the OTIS Summer of Art Celebration.

When making my product, I drew from my long relationship with soccer, specifically goalkeeping, and frustration with current protective goalkeeper pants on the market. I created a line of pants and shorts that were lightweight, durable, breathable, and most importantly, protective from all the diving goalies do. I broadened my brand with a line extension including headbands and a knee sleeve. By the end of the course, I developed RIACT, the clothing brand designed to optimize performance for all goalkeepers.

Below is a number of photos from my pitch event. Additionally, here is the link to my presentation.
